Our Story

At Azteca America, we believe that our viewers, and the communities that we serve, are our most valuable assets. Our “Contigo” slogan is not just a word, but something that we inspire to incorporate in our programming, community engagement, and corporate philanthropy. In September 2014, we launched one of our most ambitious projects yet, Esperanza Azteca LA Orchestra, an after-school music program that inspires children to reach their highest potential.

Esperanza Azteca LA is the first American chapter of the youth orchestra program, which includes 82 youth orchestras throughout Mexico and El Salvador. The Los Angeles orchestra currently has 198 musicians from diverse backgrounds, between the ages of 6 and 17 who attend various schools in the Cypress Park area of Los Angeles.

Our free, conservatory-style program meets after school for 3 hours every day. The kids have 15 teaching artists, conductors, and academic tutors at their disposal. Students learn the fundamentals of music, attend group and private vocal or instrument lessons, as well as full orchestra rehearsals. Over 70% of participants have no previous musical experience. Most would be otherwise unable to afford the instruments that the program provides. This philanthropic endeavor helps bridge the gaps that budget cuts have left in public school arts education.

Together we can have a positive impact in our communities and inspire children to reach their highest potential through music education.

2015 in Review

We had no idea where this journey would take us when we started in September 2014, but together we have created new paths, embraced new challenges, and uncovered new possibilities.

2015 was a great year for the Esperanza Azteca LA Youth Orchestra. In May, we collaborated with students from Esperanza Azteca, Mexico, to perform for President Barack Obama at the White House Cinco de Mayo celebration. Then in September, we partnered with the Children’s Miracle Network to perform the opening and closing numbers at the “Salve Un Angelito” telethon event. We ended the year on a high note with our debut full program concert at the Luckman Theatre, Cal State LA for our family and friends.
